The Firehouse Museum preserves the rich history of firefighting in Little Rock, housed in a beautifully restored 1917 fire station. Through exhibits and memorabilia, it showcases the bravery of firefighters and promotes fire safety education for visitors of all ages.
Built in 1917, Fire Station 2 served Little Rock until 1957, when modern fire trucks outgrew the building. Located in present-day MacArthur Park, it was a key part of the community for 40 years. After closing as a fire station, it was used for storage by the Arkansas Military Museum and housed Little Rock Parks and Recreation offices.
The Future AnnexAfter a fire on the first floor, the building was modified with added rooms and an exterior staircase. It became a community center, hosting local programs and events under Little Rock Parks’ management. By 2006, Hostelling Arkansas, Inc. began efforts to restore the firehouse.
Since 2006, the firehouse has been renovated to serve as the Firehouse Museum & Hostel, welcoming travelers and preserving firefighting history. Nestled in MacArthur Park, it sits alongside the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts and MacArthur Military Museum, offering easy access to Little Rock’s revitalized River Market and SOMA districts.
